When Hill AFB lost one of its members in May 2011, people who knew him felt a need to commemorate his bravery and sacrifice with a permanent memorial. Thus, Tech. Sgt. Kristoffer Solesbee now has a street named after him. He had had been stationed at Hill before his final deployment to Afghanistan as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician.

A Veterans Ball will be held at the Roy Elks Lodge, on Nov. 11, 1875 W. 5200 South, with a social at 7 p.m. The dance will begin at 8 p.m. Big Band music will be provided by the Junction City Band.

Phase 3 of the effort to repave the clinic parking lot continues through Saturday, Nov. 5, weather permitting. The parking area southeast of and far from Building 570 and the main driveway, will be closed for repaving. Traffic will be detoured to other parking areas. Accessibility and crosswalks will be maintained as deemed safe around construction equipment. Motorists will not be able to travel where posted or deemed unsafe due to construction.

The U.S. Marine Corps will be celebrating its 236th birthday on Nov. 10. In honor of this momentous occasion, all Marines and their families are cordially invited to attend a USMC birthday lunch and ceremony at noon on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Golden Coral in Layton. Lunch will be at your expense.

As a thank you from Utah's Hogle Zoo, all military personnel, veterans and their immediate family (spouse and any children 18 and under) will receive free admission to the zoo on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Show your military or veteran organization ID, discharge papers or other official military identification to receive free admission.

Zoo hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the grounds close at 5:30 p.m.

Come shop more than 50 vendors for Christmas gifts, baby items, decorations and much more at the Hill Officers' Spouses' Club Holiday Bazaar on Nov. 9 at Club Hill. The event is free and open to everyone with base access. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A communications project will affect power in Base Housing sections D, E, and lower F, on Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The outage is required in order to replace an existing electrical utility pole close to the intersection of Sixth Street and Balmer Avenue. A steam vault installation project is nearly complete on Southgate Avenue near Building 237 and will continue near the parking area south of America First Credit Union. The project installs new concrete vaults and new steam and condensate piping.

The 75th Civil Engineer Squadron has contracted a paving project to repave the Clinic Parking Lots in five phases (South of Balmer Street).

Phase 1 of this effort continues due to weather conditions and should be complete by Oct. 11.
