Former Hill OSC president receives award for Air Force Spouse of the Year

When Michelle Storch, wife of Lt. Col. Steven Storch, a former officer of the 75th Operations Support Squadron here, got the Internet hooked up in June at her family's new home near Fort Bragg, N.C., one of the first e-mails she read from a friend confused her. Storch and her family had just completed a permanent change of station there from Hill Air Force Base and her friend was congratulating her on being chosen as the 2009 Joan Orr Air Force Spouse of the Year.

WASHINGTON -- Air Force officials will implement a new organizational construct for weapon systems acquisition that includes designating directorates, divisions and branches in place of some current wings, groups and squadrons.

Special observance accompanies Warrior Call on Sept. 11

The Base Theater was the site of a remembrance in honor of Sept. 11, 2001, as Warrior Call included a slideshow of a father's memories of his two sons, both firefighters, part of the emergency response to the attacks on that day. The remembrance, both simple and heartfelt, recalled some of what happened that day and the father's brief descriptions of who they were as individuals -- their humor, their belief in what they were doing and his own conclusion that he would not have changed their decision to be firefighters. Essentially, it was part of who they were.

101 Critical Days of Summer drawing to a close with encouraging stats

Safety concerns were at an all time high during the months between Memorial Day and Labor Day at Hill Air Force Base. With an increase of outdoor and recreational activities, the 101 Critical Days of Summer campaign encourages service members to use active- risk management throughout these high-risk months. "The Air Force has experienced 13 fatalities with auto mishaps, four are associated with motorcycle mishaps," said Ron James, 75th Air Base Wing Ogden Safety Office chief of ground safety. "Hill AFB has not contributed to that number."

Simple Reveille ceremony set for POW/MIA remembrance

No one was more surprised than Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Carl Wright when approximately 300 individuals showed up to stand in formation at the pretty much spontaneously planned POW/MIA ceremony held last year. When the Hill Air Force Base installation chaplain had contacted Ogden Air Logistics Center and 75th Air Base Wing Command Chief Master Sgt. Kevin Candler about the lack of such a ceremony, he was met with the response that such a ceremony was definitely in order.
