Utah WASP only female member of state aviation Hall of Fame

On Sept. 10, 1942, the Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron was activated to support the Army Air Forces with Nancy Harkness Love (1914-1976) as the commander. This was a small group of women pilots serving noncombat missions. They would ferry planes to Army Air Forces stations affording the service the ability to deploy more men to combat and still get planes and related equipment delivered to the necessary training and maintenance sites.

If take-off were a murder, 'whodunit' lists lots of suspects

Col. Scott Zobrist, 388th Fighter Wing commander, and I stood on the tarmac, a stone's throw from the runway. The hiss of a taxiing F-16 broke the serenity of a crisp summer night. The aircraft had just completed the final checks prior to take-off: Four high explosive missiles and a deadly gun system were armed. The jet is ready to provide combat air support wherever it is called upon for America's interests. The pilot lines up on the runway, the engine roars and soon the jet is in full afterburner.

Living history

Surf, sand and palm trees might sound like paradise to a frostbitten soldier lying in a frigid European foxhole, but not for Sgt. Russell Jones, a World War II veteran who retired in 1967 from Hill Air Force Base. Underneath the appeal of the South Pacific Islands creeps unseen risks such as malaria, dengue fever and tropical dysentery which resulted in more casualties than battle wounds according to the "U.S. Army Center of Military History" by Judith Bellafaire.

Bystander intervention key to values

Hello Team Hill, this installment of SARC's Remarks focuses on bystander intervention. One of the cornerstone concepts of bystander intervention is that sexual assault does not normally occur "out of the blue" or in isolation from other supporting influences. Sexual assault is most often a crime that is committed by a person who believes that the social and cultural climate supports their acts or, at a minimum, will shield them from being detected or from receiving harsh consequences.Social climate can be understood by drawing a comparison to plant life.
