Thanksgiving and the holiday season is rapidly approaching. Cold temperatures, warm family occasions and the food of the holidays encourage indoor activities. Families spend the holidays inside, eating; visiting friends, eating; office parties, eating; church fellowship, eating; watching the game and eating. There are more than 2,000 residential Thanksgiving Day fires in the United States every year. The vast majority of those fires were caused by people preparing the food. Most fires will occur between noon and 4 pm. Twenty percent will occur in homes without working smoke detectors.
