309th MXSG manager named 2016 Energy Champion

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — The 75th Civil Engineer Squadron Energy Management Office has named Aaron Erickson, 309th Maintenance Support Group energy manager, as the 2016 Energy Champion of the Year.

Erickson has taken positive and specific actions that have contributed to a decrease in energy consumption for the 309th MXSG. Energy efficiency projects throughout the Ogden Air Logistics Complex have spurred energy savings of more than 1.75 million kilo-watt-hours (kWh) and $385,000 in cost savings.

One project in particular was the lighting upgrade in building 680. There, 148 metal halide, 1000-watt light fixtures were replaced with LED, 495-watt light fixtures resulting in an improved working environment for the F-22 Maintenance Depot, as well as saving 597,142 kilo-watt-hours of electricity. Qualifying as a Custom Measure under the Rocky Mountain Power’s Watt-smart incentive program, this project earned $201,000 in incentive rebate dollars, or 80 percent of the project’s cost.

Erickson’s focus and persistent effort were instrumental in identifying infrastructure energy improvement projects. Teaming with the Energy Management Office early in the project planning phase allowed the 309th MXSG to take advantage of the utility incentive rebates.

For his efforts, Erickson is recognized as the fiscal year 2016 Hill AFB Energy Champion, an outstanding example of excellent energy and environmental stewardship for Hill AFB and the U.S. Air Force. Our congratulations for a job well done.
