The “Battle of the BBQ” event kicks off at The Landing, on Hill Air Force Base on May 31. There will be 16 BBQ teams competing to win the title of “Grill Master."
The event opens to the public at 11 a.m. with BBQ plate specials, live music featuring “Honor the Fallen” and “Rusty River Band,” a dunk tank filled by the base’s chiefs and first sergeants, along with a jump castle and games for the kids. There will also be a Cornhole tournament starting at noon. Teams buy in for $20, winner takes half.
The Grand Champion of this BBQ competition will win $300, and there will also be a few opportunities to win $100 for best beef, chicken, and pork. There will also be a drawing for BBQ patrons, where The Landing will be drawing for a brand new BBQ grill during the 1.5 hour judging window from 3:30-5 p.m. Winner must be present to win.
The fun isn’t over when the “Grill Master” is announced. After the BBQ event, walk on over to The Landing and enjoy more specials delivered by the Bud Girls, along with live music from “Montreal Blue”.
Tentative judging times are:
• Chicken - 3:30 p.m.
• Beef - 4 p.m.
• Pork - 4:30 p.m.
Winners for Grand Champion and People’s Choice - 5 p.m.
