First-line supervisors: Prevent retaliation

First-line supervisors: Prevent retaliation

In November 2014 the Department of Defense released preliminary results of the RAND Military Workplace Study as part of a report to the president.

The preliminary release of the RMWS highlighted the problem of retaliation against those who reported sexual assault. On Dec. 3, 2014, the Secretary of Defense directed the services to provide training to first-line supervisors to reduce incidents of retaliation and improve system response to military victims of sexual assault.

The Air Force has deployed training that meets the requirements set forth by public law, DOD and the Air Force. This training focuses specifically on preventing and responding to incidents of retaliation against Airmen who make unrestricted reports of sexual assault.

The training is to be conducted in small groups (no more than 25), face-to-face sessions. The material can be covered in up to an hour session. Squadron Commanders or an appropriate designee will facilitate the sessions. This training is mandatory for all uniform and civilians personnel who supervise military.

Training will be tracked in ADLS by Unit Training Managers. Materials for training can be found at https://cs.eis.afmc.af.mil/sites/Hill/SARC/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx (FST- First Line Supv Tng). Training must completed for RegAF be by July 30 and for Air National Guard and Reserve by Sept. 30.
