Local sergeants association seeks new members

The Air Force Sergeants Association at Hill Air Force Base is always seeking new members.

Master Sgt. DeAngelo Lee, AFSA Chapter 1163 president, said AFSA is one of many key organizations that make up the Military Coalition in Washington, D.C., which advocates for quality-of-life benefits such as military pay and compensation.

Locally, the organization supports a number of causes.

“We support Camp Williams’ Veterans Cemetery on Memorial Day and Veterans Day by honoring those grave sites with flags,” Lee said. “We also host an annual POW/MIA commemoration in September.

At various times throughout the year, Lee said, “we partner with Habitat for Humanity, Utah Department of Transportation’s Adopt-a-Highway, George E. Wahlen Veterans Home, and Vietnam Veterans of America Northern Utah, to name a few.”

Recently, the local AFSA Chapter has sought new members, including top leaders from around the installation.

Current and former enlisted members in the Air Force, Air National Guard or Air Force Reserves, as well as family members of active members and commissioned officers, and Department of the Air Force civilians and Civil Air Patrol cadets are eligible to join.

AFSA is a federally chartered, 501C(19) nonprofit organization whose mission is to advocate for improved quality of life and economic fairness to support the well-being of the U.S. Air Force enlisted Airmen, veterans and their families.

To achieve this mission, AFSA works closely with the U.S. Congress, including testifying before the House and Senate and the U.S. Department of Defense.
