Education fair in the park

The Education Office at Hill Air Force Base is holding an Education Fair today at Centennial Park from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. More than 30 colleges and universities will be represented. For more information, contact the Education Office at 777-2710.

Friday water outage for work on utility

There will be a water outage in order to tie in required new fire suppression system in Building 119 on Friday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. for one hour.

This will affect the following facilities:

Buildings 30, 119 and 120

Road and power outage Saturday

There will be a road closure and power outage on Saturday, Sept.19, beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting approximately six hours in order to replace a switch.

The road closure will include Georgia Street between Hawthorne and Heath Streets. Motorists are advised to use Heath Street as a detour route.

Facilities affected by the power outage will include the following:

Buildings 2589, 2588, 2587, 2586, 2585, 2584, 2583, 2582, 2581, 1480, 1479, 1478, 2521, 2533, 2534, 2535, 2536, 2560, 2561, 2563, 2559, 1471, 1380, 1363, 1362, 1364, 1365, 1369, 1387,1382, 1388, 1383,1389,1384, 1390, 1385, 1386, 1368, 1370, 1371, 1372, 1373,1476, 1475, 1374, 1375, 1376, 1474, 1473, 1325, 1328, 1384, 1365, 1403, 1404, 1405, 2521, 1329, 1330, and two new buildings between 1328 and 1363.

Hill 'Givem-Hell' Combat Dining Out

Grab your Super Soaker, water ballons, guidons, face paint and get ready for the Team Hill "Givem-Hell" Combat Dining Out, Friday, Sept. 18 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the BORTA. Civilians are welcome and encouraged to attend. Uniform of the day will be ABU/BDU for military and hunting/outdoor wear for civilians. This event will celebrate the Air Force's 62nd anniversary. There will be a POW/MIA tribute and lots of groggin' — leaded and unleaded. Holy Smoke will be catering the meal, and there will be prizes given for best squadron centerpiece and best male/female camo paint job. Ticket prices are: Airman to senior Airman, $10; staff sergeant to technical sergeant, $15; master sergeant and above $20. Tickets may be purchased from your first sergeant.

Pavement project on New Jersey Road

The 75th Civil Engineer Squadron has a pavement construction project on New Jersey Road and Warrior Way which will require excavation and repair of asphalt. Starting today and continuing through Sept. 23, New Jersey Road and Warrior Way (2nd Street to Perimeter Road) will be closed. The project will not include the intersections of New Jersey Road and 2nd Street or Warrior Way and Perimeter Road. Recommended alternate route is Browning Street to Perimeter Street for through traffic (Quincy Lane is closed).

Luncheon to focus on disabled efforts

The Persons With Disabilities Committee will host its annual luncheon Oct. 22 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Club Hill. The luncheon is held to award outstanding Department of Defense workers with disabilities and the guest speaker will be Kim Peek, a savant who inspired Dustin Hoffman's character in the movie "Rain Man." Touted as a walking encyclopedia, Peek's knowledge-only IQ equivalent is 184.

Piano lessons at Youth Center

Piano lessons are being offered through the Hill Air Force Base Youth Center with instructor Sandy Bryan who has taught piano for 31 years. She is a member of the Music Teacher's National Association and the Utah Music Teacher's Association. She is the Chairman for the Yamaha Clavinova Festival. She owns and operates a piano studio in West Haven and is excited to join the Youth Center staff to teach piano lessons at the HAFB Youth Center.

Class will include piano instruction, sight reading, ear training, composing, computer lab, theory, games, and a reward center.

Class time and ages: Classes will be formed according to age and piano experience for ages 5 years to 18 years old.

Classes will be Wednesdays or Fridays, 5:15 p.m.-6:15 p.m.; 6:15 p.m.-7:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.-8:15 p.m. at the Youth Center Building 883 in the Music Room.

Fee will be $45 a month for one-hour weekly lessons, four times a month. There is an additional charge for sheet music. For more information, call the instructor at (801) 529-2523.

Transformer work to interrupt power

There will be a power outage Sept. 25 in order to install a new transformer. Work will begin at 8 a.m., at Building 1151, and the outage will last approximately eight hours.

Facilities affected will include:

Buildings 1120, 1121, 1122, 1123, 1124, 1126, 1128 and 1151.

Women's Business Conference in Ogden

The Ogden Weber Chamber Women are presenting the sixth annual Women's Business Conference, described as an event full of discovery, learning and empowerment.

The conference, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be in the Weber State University Union Building.

Employees from Hill Air Force Base will receive a conference rate of $50 with proof of identification. Other rates are as follows: $20 student rate; $20 lunch only.

Work on Southgate Drive, Foulois Road

On Sept. 26, weather permitting, the 75th Civil Engineering Group will perform pavement repairs on Southgate Drive and Foulois Road, from 6:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Some delays might be encountered entering and exiting the South Gate including access to Hubbard Golf Course.

The engineers ask for everyone's patience while they perform this much needed pavement work.

Fire suppression outage on Saturday

A fire suppression outage will be in effect beginning Saturday, Sept. 19, through Sept. 26, ten hours, each day to allow work to include a backflow preventer in order to prevent contamination to the water system.

This outage will affect the following facilities:

Buildings 265, 222, 270, 269 and 275.
