Roy City, Incorporated in 1937, is celebrating its 75th anniversary throughout 2012. The pinnacle event organized by the 75th Diamond Jubilee Committee, "Proud To Be An American" will be held Thursday, July 12 at 7 p.m. in the Roy High School auditorium, 2150 W. 4800 South.
According to committee chairman, Bob Dandoy, "This free, two hour stage production is to honor the United States of America, our flag and the military."
Dandoy continued: "We are pleased to feature a performance by the 23rd Army National Guard Band, an address by former U.S. Sen. and astronaut, E. "Jake" Garn, the national anthem sung by Weber State University Professor Dr. Karen Brookens and thoughts on freedom and sacrifice by Blake Wahlen, the son of Medal of Honor recipient, George Wahlen."
Dalton Edwards, Roy High School Student Body vice president and state debate champion will also speak.
Other highlights will include: D. Kent Norton as master of ceremonies, Roy's elementary students leading the Pledge of Allegiance, the Hill Air Force Base Honor Guard, United States flag "Walk of Honor," military vehicles and American Sign Language Interpreters.
