222 "I think the average weight gain over the holidays is seven pounds," she added.
By registering for the campaign, participants not only vow to keep those seven pounds away, they also make it their goal to maintain their current weight.
Through Nov. 13, participants will weigh in at the table near the fitness center front desk, plus do another weigh-in to monitor their progress mid-way through the campaign on Dec. 12-18. On Jan. 2-8, participants will weigh in again and those who have maintained their weight will receive a chance to win a pair of ski tickets to a local ski resort or other prizes, Purser said.
Along with weigh-ins, participants are encouraged to meet a 30-hour goal of exercise and healthy activities during the campaign. Activities such as cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, cardio, weight lifting and seasonal activities such as sledding, skiing and snowshoeing all count toward the 30 hour goal.
Those that meet the 30 hour goal also get a chance to put their name in for the prizes, and participants who meet both goals can put their names in at least twice.
Purser encouraged people to spread the word among their co-workers and family, though each person is only able to participate individually and not in teams.
"Any time you do things like this it's easier with a group of people," she said.
As for other holiday tips, Purser said everyone should focus on portion control.
"Remember that you don't have to eat everything on your plate," she stressed.
