'H' Street closures through June 14

Civil engineering personnel will be closing "H" Street to "Local Traffic Only" for resurfacing. This will be done in several phases to minimize interruptions to motorist and retain access to facilities.

The First Phase of construction will continue through Monday, June 14, and will impact the area from 6th Street through the 5th Street intersection. Access to Building 843's parking area, west of "H" Street, will have to be made from the north off of Wardleigh Road. Access to the remainder of Building 843 will have to be made off of 5th Street via "G" Avenue.

Construction on I-15 bridges starts June 3

State officials have announced maintenance work projects on Interstate 15 will begin on weekends starting June 3 and continue for four weeks.

The following I-15 bridges will be under repair:

•Roy 5600 South interchange

•The bridge over the Union Pacific railroad tracks (just south of 5600 South in Roy)

•Clearfield 700 South interchange

All I-15 interchange ramps at 5600 South in Roy will be closed from 7 p.m., Friday, June 4, until 6 a.m., Monday, June 7. Alternate routes to use are 31st Street in Ogden and 650 North Street in Clearfield. Traffic will be detoured to State Road 126 (1900 West in Roy, Main Street in Clearfield).

Most work will be completed on weekends.

For the first two Thursday nights (June 3 and June 10), I-15 will be restricted to two lanes at 7 p.m. and one lane from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday.

Motorists should expect restrictions in both directions on I-15, beginning at 7 p.m. each Friday and continuing through Monday mornings at 5 a.m. for southbound traffic and at 6 a.m. for northbound traffic.

East-west traffic under the bridges will not be affected.

Delays are to be expected and motorists are advised to use lower speeds throughout the area.

Burger King to close June 12 for upgrades

The base Burger King will be serving up its last burgers and fries of the summer on June 11, and will be fully closed June 12 until the end of August.

The entire facility will be undergoing renovations for approximately 45 days. The renovations will include an upgrade to more energy efficient machinery.



Food Pantry seeks volunteers Friday

The Food Pantry, which is currently located at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, will be moving to the Airman's Attic in Building 150 on June 8. Due to the new location, the Food Pantry will now be open during Airman's Attic business hours, which are Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Volunteers are needed Friday, June 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., to help move.

The Food Pantry is a resource for those ranked E-6 and below who are struggling financially and in need of food. Others will be considered case by case. Donations are welcome during business hours or place items in a donation box located near the Commissary exit.

AMMO squadron function aims big

The 649th Munitions Squadron is organizing what it hopes to be the largest AMMO call in the history of the military, set for May 27 in Building 1621, at 3 p.m.

Along with all other munitions and ordnance squadrons and wings -- including guard and Reserves -- at Hill, retirees who worked in the career field are also invited. Munitions and ordnance personnel who are fulfilling special duties in Utah are also encouraged to attend.

Warrior Chefs battle for top chef title

Ready your seasonings and prepare for a cook-off! Club Hill will be hosting a Warrior Chef competition Tuesday, June 1,

from noon to 1 p.m. Each contestant will prepare an entrée and two side dishes ahead of time and present them to the judges. Each dish will be scored for taste, plating design and originality.

The top two finalists chosen at this cook-off will go on to compete in the Hill's Kitchen competition on June 11. Hill's Kitchen will be open to all who wish to enjoy a gourmet meal and entertainment, and the meal will cost $29.95 for Club Hill members and $34.95 for nonmembers.

Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage luau May 26

Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage events this month follow the theme of "Leadership to meet the challenges of a changing world."

A luau will be held Wednesday, May 26, at Centennial Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Entertainment will be provided and will include taiko drumming, dancing and a possible martial arts demonstration. Tickets in advance will cost $9; $12 at the door.

The menu will include fried rice, barbecue pork, chicken pancit noodles, lumpia and a drink.
