Exceptional construction program expands Base Chapel space

Construction scenes seem to be the norm recently at Hill Air Force Base due to funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, more commonly known as President Barack Obama's stimulus plan. However, for the Base Chapel, seeing construction on its buildings is a rare and welcomed change.

CFC expo to kick off fundraising Oct. 7

The Team Hill Combined Federal Campaign for 2009 is set to kick off here with a charity exposition Oct. 7 at the Hill Aerospace Museum from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will begin with a brief proclamation ceremony and conclude with a drawing for the door prize, a 42-inch plasma screen TV. Team Hill employees are invited to attend with up to 90 minutes of release time granted, as mission permits, and bus transportation to and from the museum will be available.

Hill AFB tailors own plans for Year of the Air Force Family

In a memorandum dated July 17, Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley and Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz designated July 2009 to July 2010 as the "Year of the Air Force Family," and groups at Hill Air Force Base have organized to help families here feel supported throughout this time and beyond.

Hill dependent scores highest in Air Force-wide bowling program

Out of 6,000 competitors from bases worldwide, Hill Air Force Base dependent Dirk Valle, 18, was recently notified that his bowling score was one of the highest in the 2009 Air Force World Wide Bowling Program, formerly known as the Bowl-by-Mail competition.

Proclamation for Fire Prevention Week set

Before Oct. 9, 1871, a farmer living on the outskirts of Chicago, Catherine O'Leary, thought the same thing most Americans believe: "Fire prevention is not my job." Then one of the most tragic fires recorded in American history, the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, was pinned on her and one of her cows, which reportedly knocked over a lantern the night of Oct. 8, 1871, and ignited the blaze.

Round Up 'is not just a 388th thing, it's a basewide thing'

One of the largest fundraising events for the programs at Hill Air Force Base that benefit military families is going on next Friday. The event is the 388th Spouse's Round Up, an annual silent and live auction which raised more than $30,000 in 2008 for more than 13 Hill AFB programs.One such program that benefitted substantially from last year's fundraising efforts was the Utah Military Families Foundation, which received most of its yearly contribution from the Round Up committee.

Former Hill OSC president receives award for Air Force Spouse of the Year

When Michelle Storch, wife of Lt. Col. Steven Storch, a former officer of the 75th Operations Support Squadron here, got the Internet hooked up in June at her family's new home near Fort Bragg, N.C., one of the first e-mails she read from a friend confused her. Storch and her family had just completed a permanent change of station there from Hill Air Force Base and her friend was congratulating her on being chosen as the 2009 Joan Orr Air Force Spouse of the Year.

Visitors from 36 countries at Hill's Worldwide Review

OGDEN -- The aircraft sustainment squadrons at Hill Air Force Base recently hosted the fourth annual F-16/Proven Aircraft Worldwide Review conference, which welcomed more than 720 government and military delegates from 36 different counties, at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center. Overall, there were 1,093 attendees at the weeklong event.

Program manager expands reach of Hispanic workers

Jose Garcia, Ogden Air Logistics Center Engineering Directorate Defense Logistics Agency 339 Engineering Support manager, accepted the collateral duty of Hispanic Employment Program Manager less than a year ago and, to this day, he continues to find ways to reach out to the Hispanic populations both on and off base.
