WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Gen. Janet Wolfenbarger became the first female four-star general in the Air Force and assumed the top position of the major command responsible for the technology, acquisition, test and sustainment of the service's current and future weapon systems during ceremonies June 5.
Wolfenbarger took the reins of Air Force Materiel Command from Gen. Donald Hoffman during a change of command held at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Prior to the change of command, Wolfenbarger received her fourth star during a promotion ceremony.
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- Building on its Year of the Community College of the Air Force campaign in 2011, Air Force Materiel Command officials announced a plan Jan. 1. for the Year of Continuing Education.
Gen. Donald Hoffman, the AFMC commander, introduced the initiative to Airmen via email Jan. 6. In it, the general indicated that AFMC's Year of Continuing Education, or YoCE, will still emphasize earning a CCAF degree but will also encourage all the command's Airmen to complete advanced academic degrees or professional certification.
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- In a mid-year update on Air Force Materiel Command's Year of the Community College of the Air Force, Chief Master Sgt. Eric Jaren, AFMC command chief, said the campaign is yielding positive results and on track to meet or even exceed its goals.
Launched in January, YoCCAF aims to increase the number of the command's enlisted Airmen with a CCAF degree by 10 percent in 2011. Throughout the year, 700 mentors at AFMC bases have been reaching out to the 10,000-plus Airmen in the E-4 to E-7 target audience to make that happen, Jaren said.
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- In a Commander's Log sent via e-mail Sept. 30, Gen. Donald Hoffman asked the Air Force Materiel Command workforce to get back to basics.
"Starting in October, we will reintegrate basic military activities, customs, and traditions to foster increased interaction among our Airmen," said the AFMC commander.
